It’s Scary

I sometimes feel that my depression is worse now than it has ever been. But then I think, how could my depression now be worse than the two month long episode I had fifteen years ago or back when I self-medicated with alcohol? How is what I am presently feeling remotely worse? It's scary when … Continue reading It’s Scary

Important Conversations About Mental Health

My daughter is seven and knows that sometimes my mind has troubles, that I take medication to help those troubles, and that I also sometimes go to talk to someone about my feelings. Just like I go to a doctor when my throat hurts, I see my therapist when my mind needs guidance. Just like … Continue reading Important Conversations About Mental Health

The Precious Sunshine

The weather was absolutely gorgeous this weekend. I love what sunshine does for my mental health. I felt on top of the world spending time outside and when I was inside at the end of the day, I was productive and completed a lot of tasks. I feel so lifted up after spending the majority of … Continue reading The Precious Sunshine

Hiking, Blessings, and Loving Everyday

I drove a route this weekend by myself that I have a strong connection to. In my parents car and later by Greyhound bus, I memorized roads and landmarks along the way, many of which have not changed. I later rode shotgun with my husband to Riding Mountain National Park after the days of the … Continue reading Hiking, Blessings, and Loving Everyday

The first thoughts that I usually have when I wake up are related to the previous days mental struggles, which in turn makes me feel anxious with the start of the new day. I wish I didn't … Continue reading The air in the morning

Life Goal: Hang Out on More Large Rocks

My original Saturday afternoon plans consisted of hanging out at a book store with a cup of tea. The weather all week had been calling for 80% chance of thunderstorms, however much to my delight the storm passed and the skies called me for a hike. I picked up my friend and headed east for … Continue reading Life Goal: Hang Out on More Large Rocks

The Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail

One of my goals this year is to camp, hike, and explore places that I have not been to before. Unless some place really calls for a repeat visit, I'm spending my time exploring some where else. My outdoor bucket list for 2017 is full of mostly new experiences.  The Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail was … Continue reading The Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail

Adventure on the Trans Canada Trail

I had the opportunity May Long Weekend to hike a very small portion of the Trans Canada Trail near Nutimik Lake in the Whiteshell. With fishing on our mind, we went to Sturgeon Falls instead of continuing along the Trans Canada Trail on Pine Point trail. The weather this past weekend was full of cold … Continue reading Adventure on the Trans Canada Trail

Strength in Numbers

This morning I walked in the Shoppers Drug Mart LOVE. YOU. Run for Women that supports women's mental health programs across Canada. Local mental health organizations benefit from the fundraising. Shoppers Drug Mart presented the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba (MDAM) with a cheque for $90,000! I walked 5K with two friends and talked openly … Continue reading Strength in Numbers
