This morning I walked in the Shoppers Drug Mart LOVE. YOU. Run for Women that supports women’s mental health programs across Canada. Local mental health organizations benefit from the fundraising.
Shoppers Drug Mart presented the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba (MDAM) with a cheque for $90,000!
I walked 5K with two friends and talked openly about why supporting mental health innitives is important to us. According to a post on MDAM Facebook page, the walk / run had 1250 participants including 450 students. Schools from across Winnipeg participated in fundraising and the event. It is fantastic to see young people on board with learning about mental health. This is how the stigma will fade and people will get the help they need!

Let’s keep the conversation flowing. Living with mental health challenges is hard but help with managing is available if you seek it out. If someone tells you that they are struggling, take their concerns seriously, listen to them, and ask what they need in that moment.
If you need someone to talk to, Peer Support volunteers with lived experiences are available at MDAM to help: 204-786-0987 / 1-800-263-1460
I am so proud of myself for participating in the walk. My heart is full. Stay brave and love yourself.
